Mitsubishi made a big splash all over the world with the Outlander nameplate. The Outlander Sport is the brand’s best-selling model, and the Outlander PHEV was the first plug-in hybrid of its class and price point to make it to U.S. shores. Now, we might have a sneak peek at the new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and it came in the form of the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Mitsubishi ASX isn’t a new model. It’s the name of Europe’s equivalent to the Outlander Sport. That’s why, when the ASX debuted onstage at the Geneva Motor Show, it was obvious to guests that the model was also a preview of the upcoming refreshed American vehicle. A quick glimpse of the outside shows off a sleeker profile and a sharper front fascia more in line with the design philosophy of the standard Outlander and Eclipse Cross, as well as revised taillights and a rear bumper.
There are no known power train options for the new Mitsubishi Outlander so far, but more information may be available on the U.S. model as it draws closer to the Outlander Sport’s fall 2019 launch date. The European model had a 2.0-liter I-4 under the hood in Geneva.
