Look out, auto industry: Mitsubishi Motors is snagging top awards left and right. This June, the Automotive Science Group honored the automaker with two prestigious awards, naming the brand the “Best All-Around Performance Brand” and the “Best Economic Performance Brand.” The 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage was also honored, earning the “Best Economic Performance Award” and the “Best 5 All-Around Performance Award.” Last month, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander PHEV were named “Best 5 All-Around Performance” winners as well.

The Automotive Science Group (ASG), which is a leading research company, thoroughly evaluates each brand and vehicle before bestowing its top awards. The researchers evaluate three core categories: environmental, social, and economic. This year, Mitsubishi competed against 32 other automotive companies. In testing, the Mitsubishi brand surpassed the other brands by an average of 16%, which is no small feat.

The Mirage, on the other hand, was up against even steeper competition. To be given the “Best Economic Performance Award,” the car had to outcompete 1,663 other vehicles. Remarkably, the ASG declared that the Mirage “holds the smallest life-cycle carbon footprint of any conventional powertrain.” The small car was also given the “Best 5 All-Around Performance Award” for its exceptional value, beating out 351 other vehicles to be named among the top five.
