2018 is here, so it’s time to start thinking about what positive changes you’re going to make in the New Year. In 2018, we’d love to see a reduction in the number of traffic accidents and injuries, so consider making some safer driving New Year’s resolutions.
Ignore Your Phone
One way to drive safer in 2018 is to make a commitment to not use your phone while you’re driving. iPhones now have a driving feature that allows you to turn off notifications and not access your phone when it senses you’re driving. You should turn the ringer off, zip your phone in your purse, do whatever it takes to avoid distracted driving and keep your eyes on the road.
Leave a Little Earlier
Five minutes is all you need to ensure that you won’t have to rush. Go the speed limit, or as close as you can while still going with the flow of traffic. Speeding is the cause of a third of all fatal car accidents. Think about how many lives we could save if we all committed to leaving five minutes earlier and driving a bit slower.
Slower driving goes hand-in-hand with being calmer and working on road rage. Be polite to other drivers, don’t tailgate, and always use your turn signal when you switch lanes or turn. Be a good example for your kids, who learn from everything you do!
