Technology is always moving forward. Mitsubishi’s next-generation infotainment system will be powered by Android. Last month, Mitsubishi announced it was partnering with Google to embed new Android operating systems into its future vehicles.
These new systems are set to make their debut starting in 2021. The next-generation technology will feature turn-by-turn navigation through Google Maps, the ability to answer calls and respond to messages, have access to automotive apps in the Google Play Store, find information, and manage vehicle function with voice controls with the Google Assistant.
Kal Mos, Global Vice President of Alliance Connected Vehicles at Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, said, “With the integration of the Android platform into our infotainment systems, we are adding a new level of intelligence to our connected vehicles. In the future, the Google Assistant, which employs Google’s leading AI technology, can become the main way customers interact with their vehicles, hands-free.”
The new technology will also allow Mitsubishi to add unique customer interfaces and features specific to its brand that will work with the Android platform. Users will also have access to more connectivity and cloud-based services. The system will also utilize over-the-air upgrades, remote diagnostics, and secure data management. With these features, future Mitsubishi models will have one of the most intelligent in-car infotainment systems available.
